- A final four of ice cream flavors judged as part of a contest at Molly V’s Homemade Ice Cream will be announced in early May.
- The Victor ice cream shop owner Mike Vistocco will make four flavors that rise to the top and customers will pick the best of the bunch.
VICTOR, NY — You could call it crunch time as the deadline nears for a tasty contest at Molly V’s Homemade Ice Cream.
Michael Vistocco, owner of the Victor ice cream shop that already boasts more than 40 flavors of homemade ice cream, is seeking ideas for new flavors from customers, with the winner of the contest receiving free ice cream for a year.
Contestants will come up with a flavor name and description of what the ice cream will taste like and write it on cards available at Molly V’s.
Contestants can include up to four flavor add-ins, such as pieces of candy, cookies and the like.
The contest closes April 28.
Judging for Molly V’s Homemade Ice Cream contest
As of last week, Vistocco had about 100 entries.
A team of judges, who will not see the names of contestants, will review proposed new flavors. Note: Make sure to check out Molly V’s list of flavors before submitting an entry.
Judges will be looking for things like fun and unique names and innovative and irresistible flavor combinations. And an important point: It’s got to be something people will want to eat, said Vistocco, who will not be one of the judges.
“Each judge will pick their top two or three as to what they feel will make a good ice cream,” said Vistocco, who will not be one of the judges.
The distinguished team of judges include Stephannie Joseph, Fox Rochester/13 WHAM TV morning anchor; Kitty Van Bortel and her team at Van Bortel Subaru; Ontario County Sheriff David Cirencione; Alexandra TePoel-DeWitt, director of food services at Victor Central School District; and me, from the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle and Canandaigua Daily Messenger.
What happens after the judging?
The judges’ picks will be whittled down to a final four, which will be announced in early May.
“I will then make the top four flavors and have the customers come in, taste a sample of them and vote for the winner,” Vistocco said.
