Possible Plastic Contamination Prompts Nationwide Ice Cream Recall | Health

Key Takeaways

  • Twenty-two flavors of ice cream and frozen yogurt have been recalled because they may contain pieces of plastic

  • The products are made by Iowa-based Wells Enterprises

  • Discard the products if you have them

TUESDAY, May 20, 2025 (HealthDay News) —  Nearly 18,000 tubs of ice cream and frozen yogurt have been recalled because they may contain plastic pieces.

Wells Enterprises, an Iowa-based ice cream manufacturer, voluntarily recalled the products last month. Its brands include Blue Bunny and Halo Top ice cream products, according to The Associated Press.

The nationwide recall affects 22 flavors of frozen yogurt and ice cream in three-gallon containers. They have “Best If Used By” dates from March to October 2026.

Some of the ice cream was distributed to food service suppliers and restaurants. Among them were Gordon Food Service, US Foods and Sysco Corp, and Johnny Rockets and Planet Smoothie restaurants, AP reported.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lists the recall on its website but issued no press release to announce it.

If you have one of the 22 products on the FDA’s recall list, do not open or consume the product. Return it to the place of purchase for a refund or throw it out so no one will eat it, the FDA recommends.
