You might be familiar with Moose Tracks ice cream—a delicious blend of chocolate fudge, peanut butter cups, and vanilla. But did you know that it may have been invented right here in the UP?
Anyone who has spent some time in the area remembers Moose Tracks Family Mini Golf, which is reportedly where the first scoop was tasted back in 1988, not far from where Jilbert’s Dairy first served this crowd favorite.
According to Denali, a Michigan company, it all started in the UP, with reports that the ice cream’s birthplace is at the outdoor family fun park, a staple that brought families together—especially for birthday parties. Mini golf, bumper boats, go-karts, and enjoying ice cream always went hand in hand.
But, there’s a twist to this creamy tale. While Denali claims that Wally and June Blume invented Moose Tracks in 1988 in the UP, discussions heated up in recent years when Indiana’s lieutenant governor proclaimed that his grandfather was the original inventor of the dessert.
That claim was debunked in the Hoosier State by local media.
One thing is clear: Moose Tracks ice cream has become a beloved treat and a Yooper favorite.
