The list is put together by the Maryland Department of Agriculture, and for the first time, you can find it on an app.Just download the Let’s Rallie app, which features a trail of 14 ice cream parlors from Western Maryland to the Eastern Shore. It’s a way to connect the public with Maryland farmers who make and sell their own ice cream.| APP DOWNLOAD LINKS: iOS | Android”(We’re doing) anything and everything (so) that people can understand the importance of local farms, the fight to stay alive and stay relevant, and that we do really offer a unique product and a unique experience,” Castillo told 11 News.”Not only are you getting that experience, you’re really tasting high-quality food,” said Kristin Hanna, the MDA’s director of special projects.With the app, users also have the chance to win prizes by scanning QR codes to check in at locations along the ice cream trail.”If you’re the first one to get five locations, there are different ways to win. So, we just encourage people to check in, check in, check in, check-in. You never know when you’re going to be selected as the winner,” Hanna told 11 News.Those who finish the entire ice cream trail can also get a prize, but there will only be one grand prize winner.This year, the app pairs a sweet treat with a little exercise: The map includes hiking trails near each ice cream shop in partnership with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to help melt away the calories.”Everything in a balance. So, you eat your ice cream, you have that milkshake, but then you go hiking for the next three hours,” Castillo said.
