SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -The sound of the ice cream truck is a staple for summer, but one ice cream truck driver never expected the sound of his window breaking.
Dustin Camper, the driver of a Jack’s Ice Cream truck, said he was shot at in northwest Springfield on Thursday.
Camper said that as he was working, someone shot the window out of the truck, about seven feet from the driver’s seat.
The shots were fired around 5 p.m. on South Natalie Avenue. Greene County deputies believe it could have been a BB or pellet gun.
Camper said he’s still shaken up and is confused as to why the incident happened.
“I’ve never seen anything like it. Usually, ice cream has an inherent happiness factor built into it,” said Camper. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone angrily lick an ice cream cone. So, the fact that I got shot at just boggles me, man. We come in peace. Please don’t shoot our ice cream trucks.“
Camper said deputies talked to people in the neighborhood to see if there were witnesses.
