Long queue for popular ice cream parlour Rossi's, Weymouth

The images were taken of people standing in line waiting to get their hands on a famous Rossi’s ice cream.

They were taken by Dave Stephens with the school Easter holidays are well underway with hundreds of holidaymakers making a beeline for the Dorset resort and even more tourists expected over the long Easter weekend.

With the weather considerably cooler after the warm spring conditions of last week, it would appear as though Weymouth beachgoers are undeterred in their pursuit of the iconic ice-cream.

Rossi’s on Weymouth Esplanade – which re-opened for the season on April 12 – has been delighting locals and visitors alike for 88 years with its ice creams and treats.

Here’s a picture of its opening day in 1937 when 125 gallons of ice cream were given away!

Owner Fulvio Figliolini – also known as ‘Figgy’ and the third generation of his family to run the store – says the recipe for success is that the store ‘isn’t just another ice cream shop.

Fulvio’s grandparents first came to the UK whilst making their way to America but decided to settle down in Weymouth instead.

In 2023 Rossi’s was named as one of the tastiest ice cream shops by the sea.

It was listed second on a list compiled by national newspaper The Times.
