Obituary | Karen Yvonne Wieden of Harmon, Oklahoma

Karen Yvonne Wieden passed from this life on April 6, 2025, at Vici, OK. She was born on March 19th, 1941, to Ira and Emma Bowers at the old Woodward hospital in Woodward, OK.

Karen started school at the Pleasant Ridge County School. She transferred to Vici Public School while still in Elementary.  She attended Vici schools from then on. In high school Karen was quite the athlete, especially in fast pitch softball. After high school she continued to play in a women’s softball league.

On January 19th,1958 Karen married Jay Wieden. When Jay was drafted into the army, Karen went with him to Fort Lee in Petersburg, VA where they lived until Jay had to go to Korea to serve his country. They put a laundry mat in Vici that Karen ran until Jay’s return from Korea.

In May of 1961 they were blessed with a son, Klinton Jay and three years later with another son Travis Dale. Karen and Jay sold their laundry mat in Vici and moved to Harmon, OK when Klinton was a toddler. Jay worked at the Tonkawa Refinery and farmed with Karen by his side helping with the cattle and delivering baby calves. She was always busy during wheat harvest driving trucks back and forth to the coop with loads of wheat and still found time to bring lunches and a freezer of homemade ice cream to the field.

Karen was always very active and involved with her boys and their 4H and FFA projects. She was a familiar face around livestock shows and built lifetime friendships along the way.

Karen and Jay moved to Thomas, OK for work then to Derby, KS. While in Derby Karen suffered a brain aneurysm that should have taken her life, but she recovered from it. Karen and Jay moved back to Harmon where they have lived since. Karen fell in 2024 and broke her femur bone by her pelvic, so she went to the Vici nursing home where she has been since.

Both Karen and Jay were generous and giving to their community and friends. They never met a stranger and befriended everyone.

Those that proceeded her in death are her parents Ira and Emma Bowers, in laws George and Ruby Wieden, a brother Kenny Bowers, sister in law Betty Bowers, brother and sister in law Roy and Marge Wieden, brother in law Marcus Nash.

Those left to grieve her passing are husband Jay Wieden, sons Klinton and Travis and wife Tommi Weiden, grandson Brett Hayes, sister and husband Beverly and Wiley Morris, brother and wife Donnie and Rita Bowers, sister in law Verla Nash, sister in law and husband Vonna and Henry Tieding, numerous nieces and nephews and special friends.

An immediate burial is to take place on April 7, 2025 at the Harmon Cemetery.
