A Chicago culinary tradition will soon be making its way to the Kansas City area.The Original Rainbow Cone, a 100-year-old Chicago ice cream staple, is scouting Kansas City for its next locations.Known for its signature five-flavor cone that’s stacked in slices, not scooped like traditional ice cream, Rainbow Cone is searching Overland Park and Lee’s Summit for its next colorful ice cream shops. According to a news release from the company, founded in 1926, The Original Rainbow Cone is known for its easily identifiable five-flavor cone featuring slices of chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (vanilla with cherries and walnuts), and pistachio ice cream, plus a fifth slice of orange sherbet.Officials said the Kansas City-area shops will also offer the brand’s Super Sundaes, hand-spun shakes, Chicago mini donuts, signature ice cream cakes, and more. “As we continue to grow Rainbow Cone beyond Chicago, my family and I are honored to build upon its storied legacy, bringing legendary ice cream treats to Missouri for the first time ever,” said Joe Buonavolanto III, Executive Vice President of the Buona Companies. “The perfect blend of nostalgia, history, and flavor in every bite makes Rainbow Cone a tradition worth sharing.
