Sundae Scoop is opening its second location in Chesapeake with free scoops for the first 200 guests.
CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A Veteran-owned ice cream shop in Virginia Beach is gearing up for the grand opening of its second location.
Sundae Scoop is a “community creamery,” supporting local schools and fellow businesses since its inception in 2021.
The new location is set to open on Friday at 1249 Cedar Road, Suite 111, in Chesapeake. Mayor Rick West, as well as local fire and police departments, will be in attendance.
The grand opening from 12-9 p.m. will feature raffles and door games, and the first 200 scoops will be free, thanks to contributions from local businesses. The event is being supported by a $5,000 small business grant from Cricket Wireless’ Small Business Superstars initiative.

Sundae Scoop got its start during the pandemic, when Army veteran and owner Philip Harrell attended ice cream classes at Scoop School and Pre-Gel of America.
Harrell said he and his wife were done with their nine-to-five work lives when they decided they needed a change. He said they wanted to open a business, and his wife suggested ice cream, and in his words, “the bug was planted.”
The ice cream shop offers unique flavors like Maple Bacon Cornbread, Pumpkin Spice and Tumeric, Purple Sweet Potato, or Ube, Apple Pie, Peach Cobbler, and Banana Pudding, just to name a few.
