Vienna holds 82nd Ice Cream Social

VIENNA, W.Va . (WTAP) – The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department held the 82nd Vienna Ice Cream Social today to help support all the VFD does.

Spencer Park and the Vienna Fire Department was packed with well over a thousand people who had come out for the social Friday afternoon.

Vienna Fire Chief Steve Scholl says all kinds of games for the kids were there, a live band for entertainment, and of course, cake and ice cream for everyone.

Vienna Mayor Chad Emrick says the social acts like a homecoming event for Vienna.

Scholl, who has been attending/putting together these socials for over 60 years, says the funds from tickets, hotdogs, and games will go to help purchase equipment that isn’t covered by the city, county or state.

Thousands were expected to have attended the event tonight

City Recorder Rodney Smith attended the event, and has been coming to these socials since the early 60s,

He said his favorite part of these socials is the treats and music

Others who attended had similar thoughts, everyone who attended loved it for the either the food, the music, the spending time with friends and family, or all of the above.

Emrick says even without an official count for the number of people here, he says the 82nd Vienna Ice Cream Social is a huge success.
