Rainbow Cone Opening In June On Michigan Avenue

DOWNTOWN — Beloved South Side ice cream shop The Original Rainbow Cone is opening a storefront on Michigan Avenue in June.

The Beverly-based brand known for its five-layer cones will open at 163 N. Michigan Ave. this June, a spokesperson confirmed in an email to Block Club. The company has already posted colorful signs on the storefront, which used to be a Protein Bar.

Rainbow Cone’s iconic ice cream treat has five signature flavors: orange sherbet, pistachio, Palmer House, strawberry and chocolate, with the ice cream famously sliced, not scooped.

The 99-year-old company has been opening and franchising locations in the Chicago area and across the country since its 2019 merger with Buona Beef. Last year, Rainbow Cone opened a location in Wicker Park.

Rainbow Cone’s new Michigan Avenue store will join other treat options on the block, including Nutella Cafe, Stan’s Donuts, Garrett Popcorn and an upcoming combined Auntie Anne’s and Cinnabon storefront.
