After 23 years of serving up creative milkshakes and sundaes, The Udder Place in Hornell will close its doors on July 4, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune. Owners Gary and Kathy Foster are retiring, ending a journey that began with community support and even a marriage proposal in the shop.
The couple hoped to sell the business but accepted an offer for the equipment instead. That gear will be used to open a new shop, The Dairy Barn, in Cameron Mills—bringing the story full circle, as both Fosters have roots there.
Grateful for years of loyal customers and returning staff, the Fosters now plan to enjoy retirement with family and a bit of travel inspired by their ice cream-loving fan base.
