Ice cream makers record double-digit growth in March

With Summer setting in early this year, ice cream makers have recorded a double-digit year-on-year growth in March. Anticipating good demand for the hot months ahead they have also ramped up production and introduced extra shifts to cater to the demand.

To attract consumers and increase in-store consumption, ice cream makers are introducing unique Indianised flavours and new concepts.

“With heatwave alerts issued across India from mid-March to May, we are seeing increased out-of-home consumption and impulse purchases, which is positive. March has shown strong double-digit growth compared to the previous year, reflecting both early summer demand and the impact of our expanded distribution and marketing efforts,” said Komal Anand, Managing Director of Havmor Ice Cream.

Production ramp-up

Ice cream makers have increased capacity at their manufacturing plants. 

“We are currently trending at 20 per cent year-on-year growth in March. We have ramped up production and we have also invested in new lines and plots, we also added a plant in Mumbai to ramp up production by 10 additional tonnes a day to meet increased seasonal demand,” said Siddhant Kamath, Director of Naturals Ice Cream. 

Manufacturing plants are operating additional shifts to meet the rising demand in Summer. Further, companies are focusing on expanding their store presence across the country.

“Our manufacturing facilities are working overtime to meet the demand. The distribution hubs are well stocked and the supply chain partners are all geared up to handle the demand surge. We are currently supplying our products across 290 cities and have plans to grow this further,” said Mohit Khattar, CEO, of Graviss Foods Pvt. Ltd. – Baskin Robbins.

“We are focused on expanding our sales channels and opening new stores in key locations—Chennai and Vizag in the South, and Zirakpur and Mohali in the North,” added Siddhant Kamath. 

Quick commerce

To increase their sales further, ice cream makers have increased their presence on quick commerce and modern trade channels.

“The combination of strategic product launches, increased Q-commerce presence, and favourable weather conditions have contributed to this positive momentum. With Q-commerce, modern trade, and on-the-go formats playing a bigger role than ever, we are gearing up for our biggest summer yet,” added Komal Anand.
