Ice Cream Specialties donates $56K to Lafayette Fire Department | Local

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Ice Cream Specialties has donated $56,352 to the Lafayette Fire Support Foundation to provide vital hazardous materials response equipment and advanced training to the Special Operations Division.

With the Ice Cream Specialties donation, the Special Operations Division has been able to purchase NFPA 1994 Level A HazMat suits, advanced detection and monitoring tools, including refrigerant leak detection equipment, anhydrous ammonia detection equipment, multi-gas detection instruments, and an automated calibration station.

According to a press release from the City of Lafayette, the donation also funded real-world anhydrous ammonia training for the Hazardous Materials Response Team, enhancing operational readiness for hazardous product incidents.

The 1994 HazMat suits will enhance responder protection during chemical emergencies, while the detection equipment will significantly improve the division’s ability to identify and mitigate dangerous gases and vapors.
