John George Farms ice cream, BOCCA brunch

John George Farms ice cream, BOCCA brunch

Foodies, are you ready to see what’s happening this week in New Bedford’s food scene?

The SouthCoast is flooded with great spots to indulge in each week, but it can get a little overwhelming, especially when you are “hangry.”

New Bedford Eats helps you narrow down the list of places to try by bringing you new menu items, food events, and specials popping up all over the area.

This week, you can get a CHiPPi at the waterfront, double your money on a gift card, or try a new summer special.

Let’s dig into the SouthCoast food scene:

Season opening

Not only is John George Farms open for ice cream with over 30 flavors, including sherbets, sorbets, and sugar- and dairy-free options, but the kitchen is also open for business. They are offering up specialty sundaes like Dubai chocolate sundae, cookie butter sundae, lemon square sundae, or Nutella cookie sundae. On the menu, you can also find hot dogs grilled or steamed with or without chili; burgers with lots of toppings; linguica or chicken sandwiches; chicken fingers and sides. For a one-stop shop, head over to 291 Slocum Road, North Dartmouth.

Lunchtime specials

Starting June 2, lunch specials are headed to David’s restaurant. Offering these specials from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for just $10, you aren’t going to want to miss this deal at 70 Church St., New Bedford. Choose from a linguica sandwich with eggs, peppers, and onions served with fries; tuna salad wraps with onions, celery, and a hard boiled egg served with fries; Cacoila wrap stuffed with Dave’s cacoila and rice with a side of fries; BLT chicken sandwich with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and cheese served with fries; Buffalo crispy chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and ranch served with fries; Scallop Mozambique burrito stuffed with scallops, rice, and Mozambique sauce served with fries; and Cacoila nachos with house made chips topped with cheese and David’s Cacoila.

Chickpeas are on the menu

There’s a new seasonal side, Destination Soups, sure to add a delicious bite to any lunch. The Mediterranean Chickpea salad side is chickpeas tossed with garlic, herbs, red pepper, scallions, feta, cucumber, and lemon oil for $7.50. Also, back on the menu in time for warmer weather is gazpacho. This cold vegetable soup is tangy, spicy, and a little sweet. Make sure to get your soup, salad, and sandwich fix at 149 Union St., New Bedford.

Get a taste of Peru

A new Peruvian-inspired menu item has been added to Cast Seaside Bites & Bar. Taste test the Lomo Saltado, which is a tender petite filet, tossed with roasted tomatoes, sweet grilled onions, and local Bay State mushrooms. They finish it with a rich soy-infused jus and serve it with house-cut fries for $35. It’s worth the drive over to 7 Cottage St., Marion, for this and their other mouthwatering offerings.

Sunday funday

Sundays are the perfect day to brunch at BOCCA, especially with the recently added menu items. Some of those are Shakshuka with chourico raviolis, spiced tomato sauce, sauteed onions and Peppers, topped with poached eggs for $22; Avocado Everything with smash avocado with tomato, pickled red onion, and hard boiled egg on a toasted everything bagel for $15;  and a Fried Banana Split with fried banana, mango sorbet, chocolate fudge, whipped cream, and cherries for $12. Make your Sunday a little tastier at 100 Alden Road, Fairhaven.
