1. TOMATO RECALL: Immokalee-grown produce pulled in 14 states for potential Salmonella
Tomatoes from a Florida farm have been recalled in 14 states for possible Salmonella contamination, according to a Saturday release from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
Hanshaw & Capling Farms of Immokalee, Florida, notified the Indianapolis-based distributor Ray & Mascari Inc. that it was recalling the lot of tomatoes that the company repacked into four-pack clamshell containers.
The tomatoes were then sold by Gordon Food Service Stores in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. – C.A. Bridges/USA TODAY Network-Florida
2. TSA bans these common items from checked luggage
Better check your luggage for portable chargers and power banks. As of March 1, these common travel items are no longer allowed in checked luggage.
You can still bring them in your carry-on bags, though.
The TSA announced the new ban after an exploding power bank was blamed for a fire that burst out in a Russian airplane in South Korea in January and forced evacuation of all 179 passengers and six crew, according to Reuters.
In November 2024, a Southwest flight from Denver was forced to evacuate after a passenger’s cellphone caught fire. 3. PUBLIX: New pint-size ice cream, new lactose-free flavors
Craving your favorite Publix ice cream, but worried you’ll devour the entire half gallon in one sitting?
Problem solved. Publix released some of its most popular ice cream flavors in pint-size options. Four of the most-loved flavors are in your local freezer section now. Two more flavors will be added to the pint-size lineup this summer.
Flavors include
- Barnie’s Coffee: Smooth Barnie’s coffee flavored ice cream made with real milk and cream.
- Chocolate Trinity: Velvety smooth chocolate ice cream swirled with thick Mackinac fudge and mini fudge cups.
- Cookies & Cream: Sweet ice cream bursting with delicious chocolate sandwich cookie pieces.
- Moose Tracks: Smooth vanilla ice cream packed with peanut butter cups and swirls of famous Moose Tracks fudge.
