For the second year in a row, local gelato chain An’s Dry Cleaning is the No. 1 ice cream shop in the country, based on an annual USA Today ranking.

Last year, the shop, which burst on the scene in North Park in 2018 inside a former dry cleaning business, was the only West Coast location on the list. When it first made the No. 1 spot in 2024, it was the second time An’s Gelato made the list. In 2023, it took second place in the ranking.

Even as it gains high praise nationally, the gelato chain has continued its local success. Earlier this year, the company had a soft opening for a fourth location, An’s Electronics Repair, in Ocean Beach. The company will celebrate its 2025 title with a special grand opening event at the Ocean Beach location (1861 Bacon St.) at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
The newest shop followed the trend of the previous three shops in taking the name of an interesting business it replaced. An’s Hatmakers can be found in Del Mar Plaza and An’s Athletic Field Services can be found inside Petco Park.
The chain is known for small-batch gelato with frequently rotating flavors. Recent options at An’s Dry Cleaning, which are given names related to fabric, included Canvas (olive oil and rosemary), Broken Heart Brocade (chocolate, brownie and raspberry jam) and Melton (mango and peach).
