Jersey Development Company hopes to secure future of ice cream concession

THE fate of major plans to transform the Waterfront is yet to be decided – but the Jersey Development Company is seeking to win another important planning battle in the meantime…

Permission to use an area next to Marina Gardens for an ice cream concession from March to November annually for five years was initially granted in 2020.

The JDC has now lodged an application to extend the permit for another five years, describing the concession as “a popular attraction at the Waterfront” that could “continue to compliment the attraction of the green space and associated facilities during the warmer weather”.

The States-owned developer is also hoping to secure permission for its revised plans to transform the Waterfront, which it unveiled towards the end of last year.

It has described the latest proposals as having addressed “a number of issues” raised when the previous iteration of the scheme was refused by a panel of politicians in September 2023.

The JDC’s vision includes new residential units as well as a new cinema, outdoor pool and landscaped gardens alongside other community and leisure facilities.
