Syracuse, N.Y. – An ice cream company’s tractor-trailer had a portion of its top crushed Monday after it got stuck under the Park Street bridge.
The truck hit the bridge around 5:30 p.m. Multiple callers reported that the truck was stuck under the bridge leading to a traffic jam, according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatchers.
The front of the tractor-trailer was dented from the impact of the bridge. The bridge clearance is marked 12 feet, 2 inches.
As of 6:15 p.m., the truck was still stuck under the bridge and police were directing traffic on Park Street. Traffic was backed up in both directions around the bridge. The truck was stuck in the right lane traveling toward Syracuse.
The tractor-trailer was a Perry’s Ice Cream Company Inc. vehicle.
The truck was still stuck under the bridge around 7:40 p.m., according to dispatches. Police are working to close down more lanes and get the truck out from underneath the bridge.
No injuries were reported, and no damage was reported to the bridge. The cab and trailer suffered significant damage as a result of the collision, said Kieran Coffey, a spokesperson for the Syracuse Police.
The driver of the tractor trailer was issued two tickets for disobeying a traffic control device, a ticket for exceeding clearance and a ticket for over length vehicle on a limited highway, he said.
